A suspected pyromaniac has been arrested in Gävle after he was found trying to set light to a car just a stone's throw from the town's police station.

The man, aged 57, is suspected of having started a string of fires in Gävle, 175 kilometres north of Stockholm.

"Now I hope that the fires in Gävle are over," Lennart Styrman of Gävle police told local paper Gefle Dagblad.

The blazes started last Friday. The largest of them was at the building supplies store K-Rauta, where parts of the building were completely destroyed.
