Christian Democrat leader Göran Hägglund has accused the Social Democrats of spreading lies and half-truths about the Alliance's policies.

As he rounded off his party's campaign, Hägglund cited brochures distributed by Social Democrats in Borås, near Gothenburg, as evidence that the Social Democrats were lying about the opposition.

The brochures said that a change of government would lead to punitive taxation for the elderly, increased costs for medicine and closures of old people's homes.

"These are hair-raising descriptions of the kind that should not be made," he told a meeting in Stockholm. He said that claims of this kind had become more common in this year's election.
