300 attack police after derby match

Swedish football suffered another image blow on Tuesday night as fans rioted after the Stockholm derby between AIK and Hammarby at the Råsunda stadium.

As well as fighting each other, around 300 supporters threw stones and stormed police, who responded by sending in mounted officers. At least one policemen was injured in the attack and three other people were taken to hospital.

32 people were arrested for various offences, including violence, causing damage and possession of drugs.

A further 18 people were taken into custody as a preventative measure and 20 were ejected from the Vasastan area, where fans congregated after the match.

Later in the evening, a pig’s head was found outside Djurgården premises on Valhallavägen. Police also suspect that AIK supporters were behind an arson attack on the Zinkensdamm sports ground.
