400 kronor find earns man 11,000 kronor fine
A 49 year old Swedish man has been left ruing the four forgotten hundred-kronor notes he found at a cash machine in Skåne, southern Sweden.
The man stuffed the notes into his wallet thinking nothing of it - except perhaps that it was his lucky day.
How wrong he was. The 49 year old was ordered to pay a fine of 11,000 kronor for misappropriation of property by a court in Ystad.
The man, who had never before fallen foul of the law, claimed that he had tried to find the rightful owner of the 400 kronor. He said that he had searched in a nearby car park and in a shop, without success.
The woman who forgot her money reported the matter and a CCTV camera caught the man. The tape showed that the man swiped the cash just 36 seconds after the woman put in her bank card.
In the court's opinion, that showed that tghe man had not tried to find the owner of the case but had simply decided to keep it for himself.
