Sony Ericsson to buy UIQ

Sony Ericsson is to buy Swedish software maker UIQ from British software giant Symbian, it has been announced. Sony Ericsson and Symbian made the sale public in a joint release on Tuesday.

UIQ Technologies makes a version of Symbian's operative system for advanced mobile telephones and Sony Ericsson has long been one of the company's most important customers.

UIQ's operative systme is used in Sony Ericsson's P990, M600 and W950 models.
