Swedish police are hunting a 19 year old man who is thought to have abducted an 18 year old woman from her home in Upplands Väsby, north of Stockholm.

"We are putting out a national alert since the case is categorised as kidnap," said Jörgen Karlsson at North Stockholm police.

Around lunchtime on Wednesday the man forced his way into the apartment where he found the woman and her two sisters. After a brawl the man dragged her out of the flat with him.

He has now been charged in his absence on suspicion of kidnap.

According to Jörgen Karlsson, police still do not have a clear picture of the background to the incident.

"No, we have no motive," he told TT.

However, Swedish tabloids reported that the man was the woman's ex-boyfriend and that the kidnap related to jealousy following their break-up.
