Worshippers on their way to a church in Berglsagen, on Christmas Day were expecting 'Noël, Noël' - but instead they were met with 'no bell, no bell'.

With an impeccable sense of timing, thieves had stolen the bell.

The bell was hanging in a free-standing belltower at St Anna's church in Stråssa. Just how heavy it was, or what metal it was made of, police could not say, but the thieves would have worked hard for their private ding dong merrily on high.

The theft was discovered by a local resident late on Christmas Eve. It was not clear whether anyone witnessed the robbers' escape into the silent night.
