Elderly couple murdered in Jönköping
An elderly married couple were found dead in their home in the southern Swedish town of Jönköping in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Police went to the flat after receiving a phone call at 2.38 a.m. The apartment has now been sealed off and police have begun a forensic examination.
"We are classifying this as a murder," said police inspector Bengt Hultqvist.
After a quick assessment upon their arrival at the scene, police were left in no doubt that the two pensioners had been murdered.
The first police officers to arrive on the scene were let into the apartment by the owner of the building.
Police do not want to reveal any details about the murder. As yet there are no suspects.
After the bodies were found, forensic staff, medical examiners and police investigators began working in the sealed off apartment. Police also began questioning people in the neighbourhood.
The couple lived on the western edge of the town centre and were not previously known to police.
