Snow storms and traffic chaos forecast for weekend

Sweden can expect much colder weather and an abundance of snow in parts over the coming weekend. Temperatures are set to drop below zero all over the country, according to meteorological agency SMHI.

"The weather will bring with it traffic problems," SMHI's Therese Fougman told Expressen.

"We predict 20 centimetres of snow in Svealand and northern Götaland," she added.

Light snow is forecast for much of the country on Friday, followed by a clear night with sub-zero temperatures.

On Saturday Southern parts of Sweden may see snow turn to rain over the course of day.

Central Sweden and the southernmost parts of Norrland can expect snow on Saturday evening, becoming heavy in parts and accompanied by cold easterly winds.

Strong westerly winds, possibly reaching storm force, are forecast for the south of the country on Saturday night.

Very cold, clear weather is expected in northern Sweden on Saturday and Sunday.
