Two people have been taken to hospital after a train collided with a car at a level crossing ten kilometres south of the eastern Swedish town of Bollnäs. Rail traffic has been diverted from the scene of the accident.

The driver of the car suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital. A woman travelling in the car as a passenger was initially trapped inside the vehicle. She too has now been taken in for treatment. Police do not yet know the identity of the injured parties.

Rail operator SJ's train service from Stockholm to Östersund was temporarily rerouted via Sundsvall, while regional trains from Gävle to Ljusdal were replaced by a stopgap bus service.

Shortly before midday rail authority Banverket announced that train traffic affected by the crash had resumed normal service.
