Police in southern Sweden have solved the mystery of a car found abandoned on the side of the road early on Thursday morning. Reports of a woman seen walking around Hässleholm in a confused state led police to the owner.

She is believed to have received a lift into the town and police no longer suspect that a crime was committed.

Police first began receiving calls about the abandoned vehicle at 4.30 a.m. on Thursday morning.

When the car was discovered the engine was still running and there was blood both inside and outside the vehicle.

Police dogs were brought in to aid in the search for any people who might have left the vehicle.

"There was blood in the car and the engine was turned on," police spokesman Hans Nilsson told news agency TT.
