A man in his fifties was murdered during an mugging in Helsingborg on Saturday.

The man died of his injuries after a knife attack.

"We believe that a number of people saw what happened," said Helsingborg police's Charley Nilsson.

The man was attacked by several people as he left a pub on Gasverksgatan in the centre of the town, some time between 1am and 2am.

The man was hit and subjected to a knife attack as he was robbed. He managed to get away from the scene and call a relative, who came to collect him.

"The relative drove him home, but the man's condition deteriorated drastically, so an ambulance was called," said Nilsson.

The emergency services received the alarm at just before 2:30am. The man was taken by ambulance to hospital in Helsingborg, but his life could not be saved.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

"All we know at the moment is what the man himself told his relative," said Nilsson.
