A car belonging to a cleaning company exploded on the Rosengård housing estate in Malmö on Sunday evening. The firm's owner has previously been the subject of threats, police say.

"It is important to stress that this has nothing to do with recent troubles in Rosengård," said police commander Lars Rosenberg.

The car was ablaze when fire crews arrived at the scene on Von Lingens Väg at about 1pm on Sunday. Two cars parked nearby were also damaged, although no people were hurt.

The area around the cars was sealed off and police forensic experts started an examination of the scene.

Police say they are not ruling out the possibility that the explosion was an accident, for example that chemicals used in cleaning had somehow caught light. The exact cause of the explosion will take several days to determine.
