Thief digs deep for golf ball booty

An unusual crime was committed at the weekend at Slite Golf Club on the Baltic island of Gotland - a resourceful thief made off with 4,800 of the club's practice balls.

The thief gained access to the bounty by digging a tunnel under the shed in which the balls were stored.

The balls were worth 20,000 kronor ($3,000), newspaper Gotlands Allehanda reports.

The club has said that the balls were new but they were also marked with the club’s name and a red trim. This means that they cannot be used in competition.
