More than 4 percent of the members of trade union confederation LO voted for the far right Sweden Democrats in last year's general election.

LO leader Wanja Lundby-Wedin was dismayed with the findings from her organization's election analysis.

"4.1 percent of the country's workers voted for the Sweden Democrats. This is a question that the entire workers' movement will have to deal with," she said.

The result means that the Sweden Democrats would have gained a foothold in parliament if LO's members had been left to decide.

LO has traditionally had strong ties with the Social Democrats and remains a major financial contributor to Sweden's largest political party.
