A 23-year-old female farm hand was upended earlier this month by the gases emanating from pig excrement on a farm in Frövi in central Sweden.

The woman had been on her way to a toilet located in the pig sty when the noxious gases came wafting up from a drain in the floor, Expressen reports.

Overwhelmed by the fumes, she retreated to the pig sty where she fell into a faint and cracked open her lip.

"We suspect that gases from the manure leaked through the floor drain, starving the air of oxygen," farm-owner Ludvig Nilsson told Expressen.

The farmer added that the toilet is very small and that a leak from the drainage system would quickly cause the room to be filled with gas.

Apart from her split lip, the young woman was unharmed and was able to return to work the following day.

The incident has been reported to the Swedish Work Environment Authority (Arbetsmiljöverket), which intends investigating the cause of the leak.
