Two men arrested in Stockholm on the evening of Sweden's National Day were charged with hate crimes and serious assault late on Wednesday night.

The men were said by police to be linked to a march by right-wing extremists in central Stockholm.

A further 15 people were arrested but released later in the evening, according to police.

Counter-demonstrators from left-wing groups had tried to stop the far-right demonstration, but they were removed by police and packed on to buses.

The two men who have been charged were said by police to be right-wing extremists who had attacked the counter-demonstrators using flagpoles.
