A four year old boy drowned in a newly-dug pond south of Vetlanda, in Småland, on Friday evening.

An older sibling said that he had fallen in and he was later found when the emergency services drained the pond.

The boy had been lying in the four metre-deep water for almost two and a half hours. He was taken to Ryhov hospital in Jönköping but he could not be resuscitated.
