Emergency services are advising people in Småland to exercise caution after a night of torrential rain caused flooding and damage to roads.

On Tuesday evening National Road 32 between Eksjö and Aneby was sealed off after a section of the road was washed away in the downpour. The road is not expected to be reopened until next week.

There is also limited access to a number of other roads in the area, including the E4, 195 and 193.

"We have had a tough time. We handled over one hundred emergency call-outs during the night," said Jönköping fire engineer Fredrik Jonsson.

Most of the cases involved flooding in cellars, but there have also been reports of rivers overflowing.

"We have a situation in Bruzaholm in Eksjö municipality where one of the dams risks bursting," said Jonsson.

There have so far been no reports of any injuries as a result of the extreme weather conditions.
