Police have resumed the search for a 14-year-old boy believed to have been involved in a boating accident on Lake Vänern in western Sweden on Wednesday.

Police dogs have been brought in to aid in the search at Sweden's largest lake as well as on land.

"We are going to continue searching all day with all our resources in the hope of finding him," said police spokesman Bengt Stevensson.

The boy's mother was found floating beside an overturned boat two kilometres out from Gaperhult harbour at Värmlandsnäs.

Police found a bicycle and a moped at the place where the woman's boat is usually moored.

"We hope that he has been able to make it to the shore and just not managed to alert anybody yet," said Bengt Stevensson
