A 44-year-old Dutch man has escaped with a suspended sentence after being found guilty of biting off part of a compatriot's nose and ear during a fight in Växjö in March.

Växjö District Court has also ordered the man to pay his victim - a 58-year-old truck driver - 50,000 kronor ($7,250) in compensation.

On March 8th The Local reported that a 58-year-old Dutch man delivering tulip bulbs to Sweden had been brutally assaulted after he pulled in to Växjö to get some rest.

It later emerged that the attacker was a 44-year-old cannibal who had hitched a lift to Sweden with the trucker.

The younger man was himself badly injured in the fight and was treated at Växjö hospital during his time on remand. The trial was also held there.
