Construction companies await cartel verdict

The Swedish Competition Authority (Konkurrensverket) has called for fines amounting to 1.2 billion kronor for the construction companies involved in a high-profile cartel case.

Six years have passed since the competition authority first received a tip-off that construction giants Skanska, NCC, Peab and Vägverket Produktion had reached an internal agreement to keep the costs of road-laying as high as possible.

The authority’s investigations resulted in what has become the largest cartel trial in Swedish history.

The companies have all admitted to some degree of cooperation and on Tuesday Stockholm District Court will outline the details of its 600 page verdict.
