Before the traditional celebration on Öland she will have to cram in a series of official engagements at the palace in Stockholm. The day starts with a family service at the palace chapel, after which the Crown Princess will be honoured by representatives from parliament and the government.
“This is the second official birthday celebration since her 18th birthday,” said palace spokeswoman Nina Eldh.
Anyone who is in Stockholm and wishes to offer congratulations to Victoria can write a greeting in the roll books in the West Vault of the royal palace. At noon a salute will be fired from Skeppsholmen and then a military guard of honour will be held in the palace’s inner courtyard.
According to Nina Eldh, the Crown Princess’s 30th birthday has sparked international interest and the pressroom will be packed to the rafters. But after 30 years in the spotlight the princess will take the day in her stride.
“I feel more secure and calm than I did a few years ago,” the princess said in an interview in the run-up to her birthday.
After the celebrations in Stockholm Victoria and her entourage will be flown to Öland, where the day will follow a more traditional itinerary.
Usually the birthday bash begins with a family lunch at Solliden , the royal family’s summer residence, but this year Victoria will have to make do with a sandwich on the plane, said Nina Eldh.
At around 4pm Victoria will be greeted by the public at Solliden’s park and then there will be a concert at Borgholm’s sports ground featuring several well-known Swedish performers.
The busy day will conclude with a relaxing family dinner at Solliden.
