Sailors near a lock gate in central Stockholm were shocked on Saturday morning when a passenger ferry carrying 300 people backed straight into a number of pleasure boats.

One sailing boat was damaged, and its passengers were treated for shock.

"There is currently no indication that anyone suffered physical injury," said Stockholm police spokeswoman Towe Hägg.

The accident took place at Hammarbyslussen, near Södermalm. All water traffic entering the lock was suspended on Saturday morning.

The precise reason for the accident is not yet known.
