A 46-year-old woman from Älvsbyn in northern Sweden has been arrested on suspicion of having caused serious damage to a man's scrotum.

After the alleged assault the victim was immediately taken to hospital where he was treated with 24 stitches.

The incident took place at 9pm on Friday evening, newspaper Piteå Tidningen reports. The woman is thought to have flown into a rage before grabbing, and subsequently ripping, the man's scrotal sac.

No details have yet emerged surrounding a possible motive for the macabre attack. The man's age and his relationship to the woman are also unclear.

Though the injured party remains in hospital, by Tuesday he had recovered sufficiently to be able file a police report. His suspected assailant was taken into custody later that day.
