Prime minister Fredrik Reinfelt wants to cut income tax for low earners from the beginning of the new year.

Speaking before his summer speech in Vaxholm, north of Stockholm, Reinfeldt said: "That means a further couple of hundred kronor in lower tax for these groups."

He also hinted at reduced contributions to A-kassa unemployment funds for a broad section of employees. Public sector employees would be among the beneficiaries, according to the prime minister.

"If we get this through then the Alliance will have brought about the greatest rise in living standards ever for low-earners," he said.
