Rail operator SJ has announced that it is set to recruit 1,000 new staff members in 2008.

The company's latest quarterly report shows profits up 63 percent on the same period last year.

Profits for the second quarter amounted to 219 million kronor, with the rail sector primarily gaining market share from domestic air travel.

"The half-year report shows the best result since SJ was unbundled," said CEO Jan Forsberg.
