Leijonborg to accept demotion
08:42 CEST+02:00
Lars Leijonborg will remain a minister after he is replaced as Liberal Party leader by Jan Björklund next month, although will take a more junior role, Sveriges Radio reports.

Leijonborg, currently Minister for Education, will reportedly become Higher Education and Research Minister. Jan Björklund, currently Leijonborg's junior minister, will take over as head of the education department. Björklund will retain responsibility for pre-schools and schools.

Leijonborg has discussed the decision with Björklund and Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt has given his approval.

The changes will come into effect after the Liberals' annual conference on 6th-9th September, where Björklund will formally be selected as leader of his party.
