The results of the vehicle count mean that there are more snowmobiles in Sweden than there are people in Sweden’s most northerly county.
Norrbotten, with an area approximately the same as that of as Portugal, has a population of just 258,000.
“This is the first time we have had a very exact figure for the number of snowmobiles,” said Ronny Edin, a spokesman for Norrbotten county administrative board.
Previous estimates put the total at 300,000.
