Man arrested over woman's balcony fall
A woman died on Tuesday morning after falling from the balcony of a third-floor apartment. Witnesses say she was pushed. A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
The woman, aged 58 or 59 according to police, was found dead outside the apartment block in Oskarshamn, 300 kilometres south of Stockholm, at 7am on Tuesday. Witnesses say she screamed before falling from the balcony.
The man who was arrested was in the building when police arrived. He was arrested on suspicion of murder or manslaughter. Police said the suspect, who was born in 1965, was "not entirely unknown" to the,
"One of the questions we are now investigating is how they were connected to each other," said Kalmar police spokesman Sven-Erik Karlsson.
Police in Kalmar are continuing to question witnesses and other residents of the apartment block. Police forensic scientists have also examined the scene.
The woman's body has been taken to Linköping for an autopsy.
