Some 70 pedigree cats have been impounded by officials in a town in southern Sweden after they were found in poor conditions.

The cats were found in a woman's house in Växjö.

"There was an indescribable smell and there was filth everywhere," animal welfare officer Maria Helldén told SVT.

The cats were said to be in a bad way, but have now been placed in temporary homes while new owners are sought.
