Peter Forsberg to launch new airline

Swedish ice hockey legend Peter Forsberg is preparing to launch a new airline.

Forsberg’s company Forspro is one of a number of firms from Örnsköldsvik in northern Sweden that have come together to mount a challenge to airline SAS on the Stockholm-Örnsköldsvik route.

The new airline is to be called Höga Kusten (High Coast) and will offer six to eight daily flights starting in January of next year.

“We want our new airline to offer a complement to the SAS flights. The aim is to secure frequent flights to Örnsköldsvik,” board chairman Jan-Olov Backman told newspaper Örnsköldsviks Allehanda.

“We are doing this for the sake of the economy. If the region is to develop, we are going to need more flights to Örnsköldsvik,” he added.

Apart from his distinguished hockey career, Peter ‘Foppa’ Forsberg is also famous for importing and marketing Crocs footwear in Sweden. The shoes have become so synonymous with the star that they are known in his homeland as foppatoffels, or Foppa slippers.

Hockey pro Markus Näslund of the Vancouver Canucks has also chosen to invest in the new airline.
