Sweden edges closer to Euro finals

Sweden's participation in Euro 2008 looks ever more assured after a comfortable 3-0 victory away to Liechtenstein on Saturday.

With three games left to play, Sweden can guarantee themselves a place in the finals with a win over Northern Ireland on Wednesday.

Saturday’s victory in Liechtenstein was as professional as it was predictable.

Any fears the players may have had of a difficult evening against the group minnows were quickly dispelled when Freddie Ljungberg and Christian Wilhelmsson each netted inside the opening half hour.

A third from Anders Svensson in the second half put the result beyond any doubt.

Even if Sweden fail to secure qualification on Wednesday, they will retain their position at the top of Group F as they go into the last two games of the campaign, where they will meet Spain away and Latvia at home.
