Police arrest 100 football hooligans

Seven people have been detained in custody following a fight between rival groups of football hooligans in southern Sweden on Sunday.

Police arrested a total of 100 people, most of whom were released during the night.

The arrests were made after a group of hooligans from Denmark, Stockholm and Helsingborg converged on Åstorp for a pre-arranged fight.

“One of the people in custody is suspected of attempted homicide, while the others are suspected of assault,” said police spokesman Lennart Hornemark.

Police were aware of the hooligans’ plans but delayed their intervention in order to be able to document any eventual crimes.

Two people were left needing hospital treatment for injuries sustained in the fight.
