IFK moved ahead in the seventh minute with a goal from Thomas Olsson, following a slip from Trelleborg's Andreas Wihlborg.

Despite a spirited effort, Trelleborg were never able to equalize, and IFK goalkeeper Bengt Andersson was only really troubled once during the match. Pontus Wernbloom made it 2-0 for IFK in the 34th minute, having been set up nicely by Stefan Selakovic.

The Gothenburg team had a few chances to increase their lead even further, with Wernbloom nearly scoring his second, the bar getting in the way.

Sunday was the 19th title for IFK Göteborg, but the first for eleven years.
