Three men have been remanded in custody for smuggling hundreds of kilos of cannabis into Sweden last week. The seizure was one of the largest of its kind in Sweden.

Police swooped on the men after several months of investigative work. On Friday a truck traveling to Dalarna was pulled over outside Mariestad in western Sweden.

Inside the vehicle police found a large quantity of cannabis. The driver, 53, was arrested. Police later arrested two more men, 50 and 46, suspected of smuggling drugs into the country. The origin of the drugs is not yet known.

The authorities suspect that more people may be involved and are anticipating further arrests.

It is not believed that the drugs were intended for distribution solely in the Dalarna region.

"It was a bit too big for just Dalarna," said police spokesman Sven-Åke Petters.

At least one of the men is a known drug dealer and has previous convictions for narcotics offences.

The ‘fairytale' boarding school nestled in a Swedish village

The words ‘boarding' and ‘school' often summon images of strict teachers, drab dormitories and downcast children. That image couldn't be further from reality at Sigtunaskolan Humanistiska Läroverket (SSHL), where boarders describe the ‘fairytale' school as a home away from home.
