A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to eleven years in prison for the brutal murder of a 19-year-old man in Gothenburg. He was also found guilty of assault and attempted robbery.

The incident took place after the two men's cars collided in a car park in the Hammarkullen district in August last year.

The 22-year-old is reported to have been driving very slowly when a white Opel, driven by the 19-year-old victim, crashed into the back of his Saab.

"It was a collision in a roundabout resulting in a bit of damage. Sometimes that's all it takes unfortunately," prosecutor Thomas Eliasson told Metro last month.

After the 19-year-old and his 25-year-old passenger had finished parking, the suspect came towards them bearing a pistol and quickly shot the younger man twice in the head at close range.

"Fuck you, idiots," he is reported to have said before turning on the 25-year-old and shooting him twice in the leg.

He is then said to have pointed his gun at the 25-year-old's forehead and pulled the trigger again. But this time the hammer clicked without firing.

The 22-year-old admitted to having fired the shots but claimed that he had acted in self-defence. According to his version of events, the two men were armed with a baseball bat and a pistol and had threatened to attack him.
