A 14-year-old old girl has regained consciousness three weeks after she was allegedly pushed from a balcony on the second floor of an apartment block in Eskilstuna in central Sweden, Aftonbladet reports.

The girl's parents were taken into custody at the end of October on suspicion of attempted murder.

The girl's 44-year-old father has told police that his daughter stepped out over the balcony rail after he tried to take away her mobile phone. According to the father, he then tried to grab hold of her clothes to pull her back inside.

The girl has been treated for serious head injuries at Uppsala University Hospital.
