A three year-old girl and her grandmother were run over and killed in a road accident in Gustavsberg, east of Stockholm on Saturday. The driver is suspected of manslaughter and reckless driving.

Police received a call at 12.13pm that an accident had occurred on a pedestrian crossing in the harbour area of Gustavsberg. The 72 year old woman and her grandchild were rushed to Astrid Lindgren's and Karolinska University hospitals in Solna and later died of their injuries.

"They were seriously injured in the accident and were driven to hospital, where they died", confirmed Björn Engström at Stockholm Police.

The driver was also treated for shock on Saturday following the accident.

"We are going to classify the incident as manslaughter and reckless driving", said Per Koziel at Nacka police.

Police were unable to release further details of the accident by late Saturday evening. Several witnesses to the accident will be interviewed.
