Two people feared to have died after a house caught fire on the island of Skarpö in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Two boys, 12 and 15, managed to make their way out of the burning building unharmed.

"Two adults are missing," said press spokesman Anders Olsson.

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze after neighbours heard a powerful explosion from a house on the island in the Stockholm archipelago.

Police believe that two people may have been inside the house when the fire broke out.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
