Disturbances after cancelled Malmö flight

Police needed to be called to calm angry passengers at Malmö Sturup Airport on Thursday night after a flight to the Polish town of Katowice was cancelled.

“At its peak, there were eight or nine police patrols at the scene,” said a spokesman for Skåne Police.

“People eventually calmed down,” the spokesman said.

Three people are reported to have turned violent when it was announced at 1.10am that the flight, operated by Polish low-cost airline Wizzair, had been cancelled, after having had its departure time pushed back several times during the evening.

According to reports, the three men blamed for the trouble were drunk. All three men were detained by police – one for breach of the peace, and two for violently resisting arrest.
