A 32-year-old man has been awarded a life sentence for the murder last year of a couple in rural Skåne.

The victims, a 48-year-old man and his partner, a 46-year-old woman, were stabbed to death in May in Ludvigsborg, a small village between the towns of Höör and Hörby.

The man was found in the doorway of an apartment block and the woman in a nearby building. The 32-year-old was arrested soon afterwards.

After a recent Supreme Court ruling it has become unusual for courts to apply a maximum life sentence. In this case however the district court was unanimous in its decision following the brutal double murder.

According to the court, the victims were stabbed repeatedy by the 32-year-old, who was also ordered to pay 200,000 kronor in damages to the families of the two victims.
