A 42-year-old man has been remanded in custody on suspicion of murdering Örebro University lecturer Fuat Deniz.

The suspect, who police say is related to Deniz, has admitted stabbing the 40-year-old academic.

He has however denied that there was any intent to kill his relation during the attack at the university's sports complex on December 11th last year.

In a custody hearing at Örebro District Court on Friday afternoon, the suspect claimed to have called police after the attack that led to the death two days later of Fuat Deniz.

Police said earlier in the day that an old feud between the two family members was the most likely motive for the killing.

"The political motive is no longer valid," spokesman Torbjörn Carlson told SVT.
