Princess Lilian was recovering in hospital on Wednesday morning after suffering a bout of food poisoning.

King Carl XVI Gustaf's 92-year-old Welsh-born aunt was taken by ambulance from her home in Stockholm on Tuesday afternoon to an undisclosed hospital in the capital. She was kept in overnight for observation.

On Wednesday morning, palace spokeswoman Nina Eldh told The Local that the princess was "feeling well" and would be returning home later in the day.

Princess Lilian is the widow of Prince Bertil, the king's uncle, whom she met in London during the Second World War. They married in 1976. Despite her advanced years, she still performs some official engagements.
