A man in his twenties has been arrested in connection with the rape of a disabled woman in Uppsala, Sveriges Radio reports.

The crime is alleged to have taken place at the end of December in an apartment near the communal apartment the woman shares with other disabled people.

The man was remanded in custody on Monday by Uppsala District Court. The court considered the likelihood that he raped the woman to be very strong.

"The basis for the detention has been generated by information from the plaintiff," prosecutor Mikaela Stranne told Sveriges Radio.

According to the prosecutor, there were at least two other people in the apartment at the time of the alleged rape.

Stranne said she expected witness testimony and technical evidence to "further strengthen suspicions" against the man.
