Nearly four of ten Swedes want Sweden to boycott the Opening Ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics, according to a survey carried out by Novus Opinion for TV4.

About half of the respondents do not want a boycott.

To the question of whether Sweden ought to be present for athletic events but skip official representation at the Opening Ceremonies 34 percent answered yes and 45 percent no.

The rest, 21 percent, replied that they didn't know.

On Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt put his foot down in the debate and said that Sweden would not boycott the Olympics in any way.

1,000 people were included in the survey.
