Two dead in plane crash

Two people died when a small plane crashed during take off in Östersund in northern Sweden on Wednesday night.

The plane, a smaller SF25 aircraft belonging to Östersund's gliding club, was taking off from Optands airport.

The victims are a man and a woman in their 30s. They had to be cut out of the plane wreck by rescue services and were rushed to Östersund Hospital.

Their deaths were confirmed by police early on Thursday morning. It remains unclear what caused the accident but according to police officer Peter Borg there were plenty of witnesses to the accident.

The Swedish Accident Investigation Board is to carry out an investigation into the matter on Thursday.
