Smokers' health care snuffed out
The city of Malmö has been fined 30 000 kronor for refusing to provide mandated health care to a heavy-smoking stroke victim and his wife. Health caretakers refused for a full year to come to the couple’s house because of the powerful smell of tobacco.
The patient was cared for by his wife after suffering a stroke, and was entitled to home care to relieve her burden for 12 hours a month, according to Sydsvenska Dagbladet.
A county court has now ruled that Malmö must pay a financial penalty of 30, 000 kronor. Now, the couple is receiving the assistance to which they are entitled, and they do their smoking on a balcony.
