Hans Kristian Rausing, 45, and his wife Eva were charged on Sunday.

She was arrested after allegedly trying to smuggle crack cocaine and heroin into the US embassy in London and their home in Chelsea, south-west London, was subsequently searched.

"Eva Louise Rausing, 44, of Cadogan Place, Chelsea, was charged on July 13 with possession of class A and class C drugs," a spokesman for London's Metropolitan Police said.

"Hans Kristian Anders Rausing, 45, of Cadogan Place, Chelsea, was charged with possession of class A drugs."

The couple were bailed and are due to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates Court in London on July 29.

According to this year's Sunday Times Rich List, the Rausing family, headed by Swedish billionaire Hans Rausing, is worth some £5.4 billion ($10.8 billion) thanks to money made in packaging.

Hans Kristian Rausing is the son of Hans Rausing.
