A man was arrested in Skene in western Sweden on suspicion of murder after the man's 26-year-old ex-girlfriend was found dead in his apartment on Thursday afternoon.

The woman's injuries have led police to believe she was murdered, but they refused to specify what the precise injuries might be.

“We suspect this was a relationship murder. We found the woman lifeless in the apartment,” said Thomas Fuxborg, spokesperson for police in Västra Götaland, to the TT news agency.

The 26-year-old woman was found around 4pm on Thursday afternoon after her friends had contacted police.

“Because the woman never showed up at an agreed time they became concerned. The woman is very punctual,” said Fuxborg.

The former boyfriend was arrested at 9:30pm on Thursday night and detained after questioning, according to Borås police spokesperson Jan Eliasson.

Police now plan to knock on doors and question the woman's friends and relatives. Police technicians were on the scene during the evening to carry out a forensic investigation.
